Nehemiah’s personality is the very definition of kindness. He has overcome a lot in life and genuinely is one of the kindest horses we’ve met. His beautiful deep liver chestnut coat, remarkable soundness, and willingness to do whatever is asked of him once he understands will make a very special horse for someone.

He is a more “woah” than “go” type. Even though he is likely a racking horse, he trots, and we can see him doing well in a variety of careers. He is green under saddle, but genuinely desires to please and would be suitable for an intermediate rider who wants to bring along their own horse. We’ve only been working at the walk and trot as he only recently achieved his required weight gain from arriving as an emaciated BCS 1 at the end of February. Has always been sound, even when he came in with horrible feet. The only thing he really doesn’t like is fly spray or being sprayed with the hose, but he is learning and progressing well.

Nehemiah does have sheer mouth (dental malocclusion) that is in progress of being corrected. He will need a few additional dental appointments to gradually continue to correct the malocclusion and a few extra chiropractic visits for TMJ as that correction happens. As such, he is still requires about 12lbs of alfalfa pellets and 4lbs of senior grain per day (in addition to free-choice forage) to help make up for the challenge of masticating his feed. Once he can fully chew like a normal horse again, he should be an easy keeper.

The rehabilitation process for an emaciated horse with no physical needs or therapeutic shoeing (simply hay, vet, dental, farrier, feed, supplements, and care) for the first 6 months of rehabilitation is an average of $6,000+).
