From rescued to forever:
It is an immense privilege to be trusted with one of God's most beautiful creations... the horse.
What is more of an honor is helping these creatures go from death to life when once let down by humans in neglect and abuse, are now radiant with life and ready to be adopted into a forever home.
Our session herd used in our mentorship programs are primarily comprised of horses we have rehabilitated. A remarkable ability for a horse to carry! While we would love to keep all of our rescued horses (we undoubtedly become attached to them after spending weeks in round-the-clock rehabilitation, sometimes literally lifting them to their feet until they're strong enough to do so themselves), if we did so, we wouldn't be able to help more. After all, responsible rescue involves responsible rehoming to be sustainable and ethical.
That's where you come in!
Rescue horses are simply horses that have been let down by humans. They are no less loving, deserving, and worthy of love, care, and a home where they can thrive.
Our rescue capacity is largely determined by the funds donors give and our ability to connect rescued horses, once rehabilitated, to their forever family. By adopting, you're not only helping the horse you adopt, you're helping another who is needing help!

The process to adopt
Our heart is to connect the right horse, with the right forever family, while ensuring the well being of the horse for the remainder of their life. Because of this, we have a vetted adoption process that we follow for all of our adoptions. We also believe that "once a Freedom Reigns Ranch horse, always a Freedom Reigns Ranch horse": all of our horses, even once adopted, always have a home here. This includes a "right of first refusal" clause in every adoption contract. Additionally, any rehoming or sale of an adopted horse to a new owner requires the new owner go through the same adoption application and process as the original adopter. We do not allow our horses to be adopted as "resale" or "project" horses unless with a designated trainer.
We recognize that adoption is not right for everyone, as it does come with additional responsibilities that a typical horse sale process wouldn't include, but we hope you recognize our heart and willingness to work with each person to ensure a great match. These horses have seen the worst humanity can show them, and now we get to help them learn about the best!

The first six months of rehabilitative care for a rescued horse (not requiring extra physical support such as therapeutic shoeing, deep wound care, or joint injections) costs an average of $6,000.
Previously Adopted Horses
Several of Freedom Reigns Ranch's session horses were rescued from abuse and neglect situations right here in Middle Tennessee. These are some of our rescue horses who have been adopted into forever homes:

2018 Jesse & Wildfire: These two horses at large (strays) were rescued in November 2018 and adopted by loving new owners.

2018 Gideon: After being rescued in August 2017, Gideon was adopted out to his new family in November 2018.

2020 Jeremy: Part of a law enforcement seizure of 5 starving horses, rescued in June 2020. After four months of rehabilitation, he was adopted by a Ranch volunteer that October.

2020 JJ: a part of the same law enforcement seizure as Jeremy, at 4 months old, JJ was the size of a week old foal at the side of his emaciated mother. He miraculously survived and grew up under the rehabilitative care of Freedom Reigns Ranch. He was adopted by a Ranch Volunteer in the Spring of 2021.

2021 Shadow: A spunky mini horse who was rescued in June 2021, and then adopted to an amazing home.

2022 Trixie: Found in the spring of 2022 at large in Franklin, TN with a BCS 2 and extensive skin infections. She rehabilitated at the Ranch and then moved to an OTTB retirement facility where she is adored by racehorse fans.

2025 'The Maury County 5': In March 2025, 5 horses, all underweight BCS 1-4, discovered by a Maury County resident tied to poles in front of a barn near a road. Left for days with no food and water where one horse had already passed. An owner surrender was negotiated and all 5 horses given to Freedom Reigns Ranch. The horses were immediately placed with rescue partners. They have all since been rehabilitated and adopted into loving homes.

2025 Hope: Surrendered by her owner- with Promise- who could no longer care for them in February 2024 after they had both been needing weight. Hope has since been adopted and Promise has joined our herd of session horses.
