"We’ve had a lot of conversations with folks lately about feeding senior horses, knowing when a horse is too thin (or too fat), and what to do if you see an emaciated horse.

We’ve produced these documents in hopes to help horse owners and our community to be educated on appropriate condition and care. This is just scratching the surface but is a good starting point.

Please feel free to ask any questions in the comments or reach out anytime!

“A good man takes care of his animals. But even the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.“ - Proverbs 12:10

“Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds.” - Proverbs 27:23

All of the photos in the documents are horses we’ve helped and helped bring back to health with proper care and nutrition."

"Beloved session horse Gabriel getting his daily Flexineb Official treatment of albuterol, budesonide, and chelated silver.

Gabriel was one of our most critical rescue cases to ever come to Freedom Reigns Ranch (swipe right to see before pics). He was missing 400lbs, in respiratory distress, and his condition was so critical that he required being lifted with a tractor or with our assistance and around-the-clock care for his first 21 days.

He has some permanent lung damage from his ordeal, but has otherwise healed and gained all his weight back (maybe a little too much 😉) He is one of the most endearing horses you’ll ever meet and always wants face scratches!

Thank you to the incredible family who sponsors all of his needs, including his daily medications, to ensure he is healthy, happy, and can continue his important job of reminding people to never give up!"

"The new ComFiTec Dura-Mesh Fly Boots from Weatherbeeta are a GAME CHANGER for keeping your horse from stomping at flies all summer!

☀️ 🪰 ❌

Check them out and make your horse (and your farrier!) happy!!!

Pro-tip: they run big, so order a size down from typical fly boots and wraps."

"What exactly goes on in a one-on-one mentorship session at Freedom Reigns Ranch?

A session is much more than a horseback riding lesson. Programs are designed as a faith-based equine-assisted mentorship experience that uses relationships with horses, mentors, and the ranch environment to help participants build trust, confidence, hope, and life skills.

This intentional one-on-one approach allows the session to be customized to the participant's needs and goals. Individual sessions are typically 90 minutes long.

Activities include:

* Grooming and caring for a horse

* Learning horse behavior and communication

* Groundwork and leading exercises

* Liberty work (working with a horse without a halter/lead or bridle)

* Riding

* Hiking the property

* Farm chores

* Games

* Crafts

* Other activities tailored to the participant's interests and comfort level

A participant might spend part of the session brushing a rescued horse, learning how to lead him/her through an obstacle, talking with their mentor about challenges they're facing, taking a short ride or doing groundwork exercises, and helping with simple ranch chores before ending the day feeling successful and connected. That combination of horses, mentorship, and meaningful activities is the heart how we seek to accomplish our mission of "igniting hope with the help of a horse."

Oh… and there’s a lot of laughter, too!

Most of our herd members were never fancy show ponies, but they’re grand champions at infusing joy into everyone they meet!"
