"Mud season in Tennessee is in full swing and the horses are LOVING it (perhaps a bit too much 😂)."

"Nehemiah (rescued 2/27/26 byway of merciful owner surrender) is doing great. He is wondering why he still has to be behind a no petting and feeding sign. 😉

(We quarantine all of our new rescues for an appropriate amount of time for their health and the health of our herd.)

He’s now putting down 30lbs of soaked alfalfa pellets a day and has gained over 70lbs! We’ve been working with him on handling his feet, which are in desperate need of care and are hopeful for his farrier visit next week. He is also scheduled to get his teeth done now that he is stable which should allow him to transition to regular hay once he can properly chew.

With him eating so much, we would love help with his daily bag of alfalfa pellets! If you’d like to help directly with his care, donating a bag would make a big difference!

You can donate directly to the ranch and designate as “Warrior/Rescue Fund” or even call Bonnie’s Barnyard (615-368-7679) directly to purchase them and donate. One bag costs $21 so his daily feed ration/supplements are running us about $18 per day. We will be adding Triple Crown Senior in two weeks to accelerate his gain as appropriate.

There is proposed legislation in the House (HB 2263 *Martin G.) and In the Senate (SB 2133 *Haile, Campbell) that will change starvation of a livestock animal causing its death from a misdemeanor to a Class E felony.

If you support this legislation contact your legislators and let them know!

Pictured: Warrior, a 2017 rescue, that died as a result of organ failure from starvation. As a 10 year old 16.1 quarter horse, he weighed only 831 lbs on intake (missing 500+lbs). His former owner claimed he was skinny because he was old."
