"Our herd of session horses each require some specialized care (other than a rare few that were donated to the Ranch).
Gabriel is shown here getting his nebulizer treatment. For those that have asthma, you’ll recognize his medicine protocol: albuterol and budesonide. It helps keep his RAO/“heaves” under control. Just like people, some days his disease flairs up and requires extra care, and other days you can’t tell he has any challenges at all.
Our horses, with all of their unique history and often having overcome a lot of adversity, are such powerful living reminders that people can overcome really big challenges too. Sometimes overcoming takes some special management, like Gabriel getting his nebulizer, but he is no less worthy of love and care because of it."

"Joseph is 37 years old this year! But you’d never know it other than those extra gray hairs and the fact that his tongue now permanently rests slightly outside of his mouth (there’s no top teeth left to hold it in!). Joseph is still the self-appointed leader of the greeting committee at the Ranch welcoming guests with his friendly nicker and positioning himself wherever he can get the most scratches. He is still used in sessions and for light riders with his therapeutic pads due to his swayback.
In his old age, and having been rescued and rehabilitated from starvation 7 years ago, he requires a lot of special considerations. He gets a special mix of Triple Crown Feed Senior, Manna Pro Homestead Cool Calories and Calf Manna to maintain excellent condition.
We are strong advocates of the truth: that old horses should not skinny because they’re old! They can thrive with great management that is often times different in their golden years than it used to be.
His story speaks powerfully of redemption: Joseph was thrown away and disregarded because he was deemed “too old”, deformed, and useless. Because his former owner determined he had no value, he was neglected, starved, and left to waste away. But God intervened in Joseph’s story: he went from a number to his name, the price for his life a mere $235. He was rehabilitated to health and gained over 300lbs at 30 years of age, and he was given a great purpose: to teach kids that our worth is not defined by our circumstances, or our limitations. Instead, it is defined by the One who gives us purpose, hope and a future!"

"Promise is one of our beloved session horses. Her story is one that connects with many of our participants who are foster kids or have been adopted.
We love how God uses our horse’s redemption stories to help them feel seen."
