"The care doesn’t stop just because it’s freezing cold and sessions don’t resume until February. We’re thankful for our army of Volunteers who help take care of our incredible herd no matter the weather!"

"Just two adorable Tennessee Walking Horses in their Weatherbeeta blankets on this cold morning.

Both Remi and Pumpkin are session horses here at Freedom Reigns Ranch who were rescued from neglectful situations.

Remi (short for Redemption) at 22 years old was rescued after his pasturemate had passed because of starvation and he wasn’t far himself. Thankfully the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office said he would not succumb to the same fate and called Freedom Reigns Ranch to take him in to save his life. He weighed only 680lbs at intake. Remi is partially sponsored by Leigh Ray and is seeking additional sponsors this year.

Pumpkin was rescued as a 2 year old as a part of the largest cruelty case in the state of Tennessee where 86 horses were saved from horrible conditions in Canon County back in 2010. She joined our session herd last year when her former owner could no longer have horse ownership as a part of her life. She knew this sweet little pony had a lot of love to give to many and gifted her to the Ranch. Pumpkin is generously fully sponsored by Katie Van Slyke."

"January is a busy at the Ranch even though sessions are on break until February. We take the opportunity to do some extra horsemanship training for those who pour into the Ranch throughout the year. It’s a great way to set everyone up for the season of ministry ahead and have a lot of fun along the way!

We’d love for you to join us as a volunteer this year! Send us a message if you’d like more info 🤠"

"⚠️ ‼️ cover your hitch!!! ‼️ ⚠️

As all of us in Tennessee are preparing for what could be quite the winter storm, this is a reminder to those that have horses and livestock cover your hitch and trailer latches before the ice/freezing rain hits.

While we can’t haul anywhere if we truly get an ice storm, rain or snow that then freezes over a hitch makes for a big challenge. In an emergency the last thing you want to be doing is trying to thaw it out."

"With the anticipated winter ice storm closing in, we’ve determined it best to keep everyone safe at home. Carissa, our executive director, will be onsite to ensure all of our horses get the care and attention they need to stay healthy.

If you follow us from up north, this can seem a bit silly. But winter ice storms are no joke for the south: the latest forecast shows some snow on top of .75” layer of ice. We’re praying it all ends up beautiful snow instead!

All the horses have extra hay, shelter, and blankets and should do just fine. In fact, they’d much prefer the cold over the heat of the summer any day!"

"Prepping for the ice storm with lots of extra hay for everyone!

"The snow and sleet have moved in. Everyone has unlimited hay, warm Weatherbeeta blankets, fresh unfrozen water, and shelter should they choose it. We have stalls ready in case they’re needed but our particular herd always prefers being outside to stalls where they can be with their friends and use movement to keep them warm.

Please join us in praying that this storm results in snow and not the catastrophic ice that is now predicted in the forecast. As such, pray the power stays on- that is everyone’s concern. If there’s lots of beautiful snow, we will be sure to share some photos with y’all!"

"A glimpse of the beautiful morning snowfall here at the ranch.

"Congratulations Roman Josi on 1,000 games with the Nashville Predators !! Not only a champion on the ice, Roman is a champion for kids and horses through his support for Freedom Reigns Ranch and for so many in our community. We’re so grateful for you! Congratulations on such a remarkable achievement!"
