Rescue Blog Update: 8/1/2025

Sparrow:

Sparrow is doing absolutley fantastic! We have transitioned to free-choice alfalfa hay and he is currently also slowly increasing his ration of Triple Crown Senior (our go-to feed for any horse that needs easily digestible nutrients). As a senior horse (likely around age 22 based on his teeth) with dentition issues that still have to be addressed once his weight is suitable to handle a float (dental care). We now are quite convinced of his at-least part arabian heritage as his movement, tail carriage, incredibly loud whinny, and overal demeanor reflect the characteristics the breed is known for. Indeed he is intelligent, inquisitive, demands respect, and is Mr. Personality.

He got a new fly mask this week to help with the irritation of his tumors and we think he looks a little bit like an astronaut.

Dove

Dove got her new Nanric Mega Ultimate shoes on and was adjusting well to them but has hit a little bit of a hiccup today with some pain in her right front foot (the one opposite of the nail). This could be something as simple as an abscess or a shift in the shoe (think walking on a blister or if your shoe were to just be a little "off"). Our amazing friends at The Jaeckle Centre are still taking the best care of this sweet girl and giving her all of the best therapy to help support blood flow and her comfort.

Rehabilitating critical horses is never a linear progression as much as we would like it to be, but she is maintaining a level of comfort and dignity that tells us to keep going, even if we have some tough times in the process.

This is a pic on the EquiVibe earlier in the week, which she is now starting to be a little sassy on. It's fun to see the spunk start to come out as it means we know she is heading in the right direction.
